Food and Drink

There are plenty of nice places to eat and drink in the area. Here are some of the places we recommend. Let us know if you discover somewhere else to add to the list!

 GULLANE

The Main Course
Just over the road from One Fairways, The Main Course is our favourite restaurant in Gullane. Great Italian food and really friendly, efficient service too. We would thoroughly recommend a visit here.

The Bonnie Badger
Just a couple of minutes walk away, The Bonnie Badger has a bar, beer garden and restaurant area - each with its own menu! - and a pool table. The food and the selection of beer and wine is good and nice for a special occasion.

The Old Clubhouse
Overlooking the kids’ golf course, The Old Clubhouse is popular with locals and tourists alike - the menu has lots of good pub fayre.

La Potinière
La Potiniere is something of a Scottish culinary institution. This small, fine dining restaurant has quite a reserved atmosphere but the food is really high quality.

Chez Roux
At the other end of the village, overlooking Muirfield Golf Course, you’ll find Greywalls Hotel. The restaurant there, Chez Roux, was established by the great Albert Roux and the food is excellent. The garden and general ambience is quite refined. It’s worth visiting for the great Open memorabilia and views of Muirfield.

Cherish
Cherish, further up the Main Street, is a nice place for a cup of tea and cake, or something a little more substantial. There are a few seats for eating in but it’s a good place for takeaways too

Goose on the Green
If you don’t fancy cooking your own breakfast we heartily recommend the breakfast rolls at Goose on the Green! You can sit in or takeaway.

Gullane Superfry
Just over the road from One Fairways you’ll find one of the best chip shops in Scotland! We particularly recommend the deep fried haggis and traditional ‘chippy sauce’ - a mixture of brown sauce and vinegar. Always popular but you can phone your order ahead to avoid the weekend queues.

Imma’s
Whether you are looking for a morning waffle and coffee, or afternoon ice cream you’ll be delighted with the selection at Imma’s - a traditional Italian Gelato.

NORTH BERWICK

The Grange
If steak and burgers is your thing then you’ll enjoy The Grange. It has a nice laid back atmosphere and a good family-friendly menu. We sat on a table next to Rory McIlroy at The Grange once - he seemed happy with the food!

The Herringbone
In the middle of North Berwick - and an easy walk from the West Links - you’ll find The Herringbone. The food and service are both very good in this relaxed wine bar/restaurant.

Osteria
An upmarket Italian, Osteria has won many awards over the years including ‘Best Italian Restaurant in Scotland’. It’s not the kind of place you go for a quick pizza, more a place to linger over truffle pasta!

Lobster Shack
Operating out of a food truck in North Berwick harbour, the Lobster Shack is a favourite of the Sunday supplements. There is now a covered and heated seating area, or just perch on the harbour wall.

Zitto
Another Italian restaurant, Italian is particularly good for kids. You can order little tapas style plates of food to share or go the more traditional route. Tons of choices and good service.

Seabird Centre Cafe
A traditional, kid-friendly visitor centre cafe at the Scottish Seabird Centre. There are seats both inside and out, with some lovely views from the terrace.

Cake
Another cafe, Cake is in the middle of North Berwick high street. You’ll get a good breakfast roll or soup, salad or sandwich for lunch. Another place that’s good with kids. Oh yes, and the cake is nice too!

OTHERS IN THE AREA

Archerfield Walled Garden
Just 5 minutes drive away you’ll find Archerfield Walled Garden. The development has a garden centre, gift shop, fairy trail, children’s play area and a cafe/restaurant. If you’re feeling energetic you can walk there in half an hour too!

The Grace of India
The Grace of India in Aberlady is a good choice for an Indian meal. The menu has all the Indian classics and the quality is very good. Its a ‘Bring Your Own Bottle’ place so come prepared if you’re looking for a drink! They also do a takeaway if you would rather eat at home.

Smeaton Nursery
East Lothian has plenty of garden centres and Smeaton Nursery, near East Linton, is one of the nicest. The cafe and grounds are really pleasant and well worth the trip if you are looking to go a little further afield.

Tyninghame Smithy
On the way to Dunbar you’ll find the pretty little village of Tyninghame. The old blacksmith’s shop has been converted to a lovely tea room. The soup and sandwiches are good but it is the cakes people travel from all over East Lothian to enjoy!
